If you've been to the shop at least once, you're probably familiar with our homemade blends.
Some do not quite understand why one would want to venture to knit with these meters of untwisted yarn while others Love and develop a deep addiction to these beauties.
To understand them, you have to know where they come from. It's actually all that's left of theold version of the Reel, the one that closed the doors in 2013. Before saying goodbye forever to the big machine that was used to coil together several strands of wire, all that was left was coiled to form these huge colored balls.
In bulk, the homemade blends are:
- Large balls made up of a mixture of various fibers, mainly cotton and/or acrylic. They are colourful and all unique and it is often difficult to find two identical ones.
- The balls have a minimum weight of around 250 grams, but can weigh up to 400 grams.
- They are composed of 6 to 12 strands, sometimes more!
- The strands are coiled parallel, i.e. they are not twisted or "twisted" together.
- They knit on average with needles of 5mm or more.
- They go very well, especially with big hooks.
What can be done with these mixtures? Everything you can imagine!
Our clients make blankets, rugs, ponchos, sweaters, mop, socks, baby toys, scarves, toques, etc. The beautiful big blankets that adorn the sofas of the store were made from these mixtures!
Fabio, who is without a doubt the most passionate member of our team of these blends, makes it wonders!
His advice 1: feel free to choose several different blends and knit them together! Experience!
Then he always passes them to the Winder to make beautiful flat balls and eliminate potential knots before you start knitting.

Why don't we sell them online?
- It is difficult to keep an up-to-date inventory of these mixtures since the majority of balls are unique.
- They all have a different composition, a number of strands, a weight and a different footage.
- They are sold by weight.
